Steve Brewer - President / Chairman

Stephen M. Brewer is the founder and Chairman of AmTEC (American Trustees Education Council) and is deeply committed to developing and organizing training and educational programs for pension plan trustees and investment staff.  He believes that by organizing trustees, staff, and subject matter experts in relatively small groups in locations convenient to trustees and staff an environment is created conducive to maximum comprehension of the important information while enjoying the positive comradery of fellow trustees and pension fund staff.  

 

Brewer began his career in commercial real estate investments and development followed by successful years in commercial banking and small business financing and investment banking.  As a serial financier and entrepreneur, he founded and assisted with the founding of dozens of companies throughout the US and participated on the boards of Texas A&M University Mays Business School, Greater Houston Builders Association, National Investment Bankers Association, and numerous emerging companies.  He earned his BS degree from Texas A&M University and a Business degree from the University of Houston.  Brewer has served as an adjunct instructor and mentor at business schools and incubators throughout Texas.

Chris Silvas -Executive Producer

Chris Silvas brings event management, creative design, and publishing skills to AmTEC as well as information technology management acumen.  Starting with Gannet News media as a Newsroom Informational Artist, he moved on as Director of Art and Creative Director for a handful of companies. Along the way, he spent time creating and publishing city planning maps across Michigan.  Silvas also created architectural illustrations, geological maps, and technical drawings for architectects, engineers and geologists.

 

Silvas earned a BFA in Illustration from Kendall College of Art and Design / Ferris State University, in Michigan, with strong experience in graphic design, illustration, and experience in animation. He has over 30 years of experience ranging from marketing management, data analysis in petroleum, real estate, architecture and administration in I.T. industries.

Carlos Lopez -Executive Director

Carlos Lopez has experience as a business owner, events producer, and entrepreneur.  He owns a casino event company in Houston, is a partner in a self-storage development and management company in Houston, and is a partner in an RV Park and Marina in Hemphill, TX.

 

Prior to owning his Houston-based businesses, Mr. Lopez was an Account Representative with IBM in Austin, TX, and a Financial Advisor with American Express Financial Advisors, Houston, TX.

 

Mr. Lopez also has served as President of the AARP Grief and Loss Program of Houston; on the board of directors of the Northeast Community Health Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Clinic in Houston’s Fifth Ward, and on the board of directors of the Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra.
