Hello Valued AmTEC followers. AmTEC and TEXPERS members were excited to celebrate the success of our first of the year Trustee Training Network event at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Houston on January 20TH! Trustees from Houston Police Officers Pension System, Houston Fire Fighters Relief & Retirement System, and TEXPERS participated in this half-day investment educational event. CE credits were issued to trustees by the Executive Director of TEXPERS, Art Alfaro.
Thanks to all the sponsors and AmTEC staff for making subject matter so interesting. Everyone had a great time as we enjoyed interesting informational presentations by the following experts:
Jon Bianco of Bianco Capital made a compelling case for how the asset class of alternative investments strengthens our investment portfolios by diversifying risk because the assets are considered non-correlated to public stocks and bond assets. Ashford Securities’ Carly Hoeler dazzled listeners by demonstrating how luxury resort and hospitality properties produce exceptional yields even in times of crisis. Jeff Noblin of Strategic Capital provided expert insight into the opportunities in the exploding world of digital infrastructure being developed to connect people and businesses for commerce and education.
Edward Griffin of Griffin Partners talked about quality metrics regarding identifying exceptional opportunities when acquiring commercial real estate as only a second-generation investment company can develop. NAI Partners’ Brett Chiles discussed the formation of NAI Partners’ fourth real estate investment fund. With investment principles perfected over the success of the first three funds, the imminent success of this fund is apparent. Bruce Marcus of Hail, Inc. mesmerized our group of trustees representing pension funds and family offices with the details of a promising national ride sharing startup being launched in Houston later this year. Jacob Heitkamp, Co-President of Fact Right, Inc. a national Due Diligence Consulting firm took us on a tour of what prudent trustees and investment professionals must investigate to arrive at the most intelligent and flawless decision relative to an investment decision.
And finally, Art Alfaro brought TEXPERS trustees current with news of the affairs of the pension fund system member-based organization and events offered during the year.
And in the spirit of supporting our membership we held a drawing to make a charitable donation and Lisa R. Slagle, Trustee with Houston Firefighters’ Relief and Retirement Fund won the honor of selecting her favorite charity, Tunnels to Towers to receive the donation in her name.
Essential to our event was the time we took to get to know each other and make new friendships! To top it off, we enjoyed an elegant cocktail reception afterward.
We look forward to your participation.
TEXPERS and AmTEC are co-sponsoring our next Trustee Training & Network Forum. Plan to attend, see old colleagues, make new friends, and enjoy Ruth’s Chris atmosphere.
